WHAT IS IRKUTSK-INSETT? WHEN DID IT START?
Irkutsk-INSETT stands for Irkutsk In-Service Teacher Training, a two-year course aimed at upgrading knowledge and providing school-embedded, reflective professional development for English Language teachers. It is disseminating the model of Krasnoyarsk In-Service Teacher Training Programme (KINSETT).
The programme was launched in January 2001. Before that the team of trainers, selected and brought together in February 2000, had had a training visit to Krasnoyarsk and taken a training course at Lancaster University, UK. By February 2002 the first cohort of participants has been trained and two seminars for cohort 2 have been conducted.

HOW IS THE POGRAMME MANAGED?
It is co-ordinated by the British Council and by the Advisory Board of the Programme in partnership with the Institute for English Language Education (IELE, Lancaster University, UK), KINSETT Project team, INSETT project teams from other regions, Ministry of Education of Russian Federation, Local Education Authorities (LEA).
The trainers are university lecturers and school teachers. Professional support and assistance are also given by guest speakers from Britain and Russia.
STYLE
This is a highly participative and practical workshop. Participants can work alone or together but everyone will be able to show competency on each module by the end of the workshop. The sessions are delivered in a friendly atmosphere of professional equals with a lot of sharing and transfer of different teaching circumstances. The trainers give patient individual feedback and constructive help on work-related issues.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME
The course consists of five seminars. Within the seminars there are the following modules delivered: Developing Reading Skills, Classroom Management, Developing Listening Skills, Developing Speaking Skills, Developing Writing Skills, Classroom Tests; Effective Lesson module spans over four seminars, and Teacher Project Development and ELT in Russia Educational Context (REC) over all the five seminars of the course.
